Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and American Society of Plastic Surgeons Member (ASPS), Dr. Richard E. Mack, Jr., M.D., Inc. has been busy.  Dr. Mack has two Doctorate degrees, extensive Aesthetic Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Residency training and private practice experience equaling over two and a half decades of surgical experience.  Dr. Mack graduated with Honors from the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB Gauchos) with a B.A. in Pharmacology.  He then took a one year Bohemian hiatus during which he saved lives plucking swimmers from the pounding surf while lifeguarding on the beach in Southern California for the City of San Clemente.  He expanded his technical ability by auditing college level evening sculpture classes, taught human anatomy to health sciences students while living in Newport Beach, then worked as a commercial tuna fisherman in San Diego, driving a speed boat among other duties while on trips lasting 89 and 37 days out at sea.  He then obtained a doctoral degree from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA Bruins) followed by his Medical Degree (M.D.) from Louisiana State University Medical Center (LSU Tigers) in New Orleans, Louisiana where he also completed a Residency in Maxillofacial Surgery.  Dr. Mack became highly skilled in the emerging field of endoscopic surgery during his General Surgery Residency at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where ocean, cycling and running sports were second only to his surgical duties.  His Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency was at the University of Southern California (USC Trojans) after honing Aesthetic Cosmetic Surgery techniques in a Fellowhip at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco.

Dr. Mack continues to enjoy daily participation in endurance sports and savors competition: (for example:  The 1.5 mile Shark Fest Swim (Escape from Alcatraz Island to Aquatic Park) in the 52 to 55 degree San Francisco Bay without a wetsuit, yearly Dwight-Crum Hermosa Beach Pier-to-Manhattan Beach Pier 2.0 mile rough water ocean swimming race, mountain biking,…cardio!) and relaxes with fine arts water color and sculpture participation.  Dr. Mack’s right & left brain fitness balanced with daily aerobic physical conditioning keeps the surgeon mentally sharp, physically robust, always friendly and at the top of his game.  Dr. Mack is amused that he is paid to perform plastic surgery, since he would just consider it another art project otherwise.  It is no surprise that this unique surgeon’s sensitive touch, instinctual sense of balance and perceptiveness combined with his fascination for the mystery of life found a perfect fit combining his broad range of talents at home in the operating room enjoying Aesthetic Cosmetic Plastic Surgery.
